I received my B.A. in Literary Studies and Linguistics from the Christian-Albrechts Universitaet zu Kiel, Germany, and my M.A. in Language Pedagogy from the University of Utah. During my graduate studies, I taught courses in German as a foreign language at all levels, second language (L2) teaching methodology, pedagogical grammar, and ESL to undergraduate and graduate students. I am serving as Co-chair of the 2009 Second Language Research Forum.
With the goal of making my research relevant to L2 teaching, my current research investigates the role of attention during second language acquisition (SLA). Other interests center on L2 speech and L2 development through language socialization. Inspired by the debate on a reconceptualized SLA, I recently developed interest in socio-cognitive approaches to the study of SLA.
