Seongmee earned a bachelor's in English and a master's in English education from Korea University. She also studied TESOL at the University of California, San Diego as well as the Korean language pedagogy at Korea University. She taught EFL learners at a variety of levels, trained in-service teachers in Korea, and worked with ESL learners from diverse linguistic and ethnic backgrounds in the United States.
Her research interests center on individual learner factors influencing interaction and learning, learner perception of interactional feedback and its relation to learning, and measures of learner attention. She has been working on a variety of projects including CALL, L2 writing, L2 assessment, L2 aptitude, and Korean as a second/foreign language.
