Virginia received her BA degree in English Language and Literature from Universidade Federal do Espirito Santo, in Vitoria, Brazil. She taught EFL at a private language school in Vitoria, Brazil, for 6 years. In 2011, she received her MA degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she taught Academic Writing to international students for three years. She joined the Second Language Studies PhD program at Michigan State University in August 2011, and continues to teach writing to International students.
