Episode two of the Liberal Arts Endeavor Podcast is out! Our host, Dean Christopher P. Long, spoke with Associate Professor of Linguistics Paula Winke in her Wells Hall office about foreign and second language testing, which is Winke’s primary area of research.
Winke, who is a faculty member in the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian, and African Languages, investigates the content and construct validity of high-stakes, standardized tests that English language learners and foreign language students take. She researches language-test reliability and methods for creating (and managing) placement and proficiency tests.
Winke co-directs the Second Language Acquisition Program’s Eye-Tracking Labs along with Aline Godfroid, Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian, and African Languages. Winke also is the co-editor (with Luke Harding, Lancaster University, UK) of the journal Language Testing.
